Ethel Barrymore challenged famous journalist Richard Harding Davis to write a play, and he wrote one of the funniest comedies ELTC has ever produced: THE DICTATOR. Brooke Travers flees NYC by jumping aboard a ship, and lands in Puerto Banos, in Central America. Believing he’s a “wanted man,” he assumes different names, even swapping identities with the American Consul, and meanwhile still manages to fall in love. Who is in charge of this Banana Republic, where revolutions are a way of life, is anyone’s guess in this 1904 Broadway hit that ELTC first produced in 2001. Cast includes ELTC favorites Tom Byrn, Mark Edward Lang, Rob LeMaire, Tiffany-Leigh Moskow, Alison J. Murphy, John Cameron Weber, Gayle Stahlhuth, and Tommy Raniszewsik, and new to ELTC, John Alvarez, Brad Heikes, and Clifford Rivera. Directed by Gayle Stahlhuth. Wed. Cape May itself is at the end of the Garden State Parkway. The performance venue, The First Presbyterian Church, is located between the ocean and the Washington Street Mall, at the corner of Decatur and Hughes Streets. Parking in the church lot is on a first-come-first-served basis.
